Erin McKibben, flute student of Karla Flygare, graduated with a BM in flute
performance from the University of Puget Sound. She has been principal flute in
the University Wind Ensemble and the University Symphony Orchestra, and
participates in flute ensemble, chamber groups with Cordelia Wikarski-Miedel,
and the New Music Ensemble. She was a winner of the 2003/04 Concerto/Aria
Contest and is a School of Music Endowed Award recipient. She is vice
president for the Beta Delta chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota and is a member of
the Muses theme house. In 2003, Erin was a winner of the National Flute
Association Masterclass Performers Competition where she played for Carol
Wincenc and spent the past two summers attending the Julius Baker
International Masterclass where she played for Julius Baker, Gary Shocker,
Joshua Smith, Trudy Kane, Sandra Church and Bradley Garner. This summer, she
will attend the ARIA International Summer Music Academy, perform in the
Anatomy of Sound Masterclass with Amy Porter, and possibly attend the Aspen
Music School. In Portland, Erin was a student of Rosemary Wood and a member
of the Portland Youth Philharmonic for three years as well as the Portland
Symphonic Girlchoir for seven years, where she also acted as flute
accompanist. She also participated in several All-State Orchestras and played
in the 2001 All-Northwest Orchestra. Erin participated in the State Solo
Contest all four years of high school, winning in 2000. In order to pursue
her flute studies, Erin plans on attending graduate school after her graduation this
year.
